A little progress has been made in determining who killed three people in a hit-and-run in Elkhart in late August.

The Elkhart Police Department issued a statement Thursday, saying they’ve transferred the case to the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney”s Office for review. The department is also waiting on forensic evidence to come back that was sent to an outside vendor for analysis.

The release also states that they’ve purposely been limiting information being released to the public to protect “the integrity of the case ensuring those who are responsible can be held accountable.”

On the evening of Aug. 26, 8-month-old Dolly Smith, 11-year-old Courtney Smith, and 22-year-old Shawn Wolcott were killed by a hit and run driver while walking near the East Beardsley and Cassopolis intersection.
