Indianapolis sues pharmaceuticals as opioid crisis grows

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The city of Indianapolis is suing several pharmaceutical manufacturers and distributors, alleging that their actions are to blame for the city’s growing opioid crisis.

The federal lawsuit filed Tuesday says the “dramatic increase” in prescription painkiller use in Indianapolis was caused by the companies’ deceptive marketing and their “failure to identify, report and stop suspicious orders” of opioids.

It also contends that the companies, including Purdue Pharma, Teva and Janssen, misled “consumers and medical providers” about the risks of painkillers.

The Indianapolis Star reports that the suit alleges that the companies’ conduct is forcing Indianapolis and Marion County to spend millions of dollars every year to help those afflicted by addiction.

Mayor Joe Hogsett announced in October that the city was planning to sue companies that make and market painkillers.

More liberal insanity! November 15, 2017 at 8:57 am

More insanity! When will people be accountable for their own choices in life? Apparently never. I t is always some evil corporations fault when people make really bad choices. It is never the person who shoots someone’s fault…It is the gun manufacturers fault. Now we are going to go with the drug abuser is not at fault…it is the drug manufacturer’s fault? Absolutely ridiculous. Why are we just skipping over the doctors that have to write the prescriptions? Oh, because these drug abusers are getting the pain killers illegally I guess. The fact that they are breaking laws is of no matter. It is still the drug manufacturer’s fault. The same type of people that are bringing this law suit are the same type of liberal criminals that have been ruining this country for decades! Unfortunately we have federal judges that have no idea how to uphold our laws or this would be thrown out as “frivolous” and the lawyers trying to profit would be put in jail!

Not my fault! November 15, 2017 at 9:00 am

My car goes to fast so I think I will sue the manufacturer. So what that I was driving 130 mph in a 45 mph zone when I crashed. There is no need for the cars to go that fast. Oh, I was also drunk so I guess I should sue the beer manufacturer as well. After all, they market this product so I have to use it all costs. Not my fault!!!
