A local business leader wants to solve the South Shore Line re-routing issue as part of his new development in South Bend.

South Bend Chocolate Company founder Mark Tarner wants to build a new factory and two museums just west of the South Bend International Airport. But, the South Bend Tribune is also reporting he also wants the South Shore to build a station at his new development, located southwest of where the St. Joseph Valley Parkway, or U.S. 31, meets U.S. 20 on the west side of South Bend.

In addition to sparing homes in the Ardmore neighborhood, he feels he can also gain business from commuters arriving from Chicago.

Mayor Pete Buttigieg’s administration, who has the final say on where the property goes, confirmed to the South Bend Tribune that Tarner’s property is under consideration.
