South Bend officials looking at new South Shore route option

Officials in South Bend are looking into a new option for improving the South Shore rail system that would also save dozens of homes.

Nearly 40 homes in the Ardmore neighborhood would be saved under the new idea. The South Bend Tribune reports that it would make use of under-used parking lots at Honeywell, rather than demolish 40 homes in Ardmore.

The city is in the midst of a study to see if the proposed idea has merit. Discussions continue in an effort to make the travel time shorter for train riders between South Bend and Chicago.
