Warsaw Community High School Head Football Coach Phil Jensen announced his retirement
from coaching.

Jensen met with students on Monday, Dec. 4, to share the announcement. His retirement from coaching is effective immediately.

Warsaw Community Schools issued the following news release regarding Jensen’s retirement:

Jensen, a 1983 Penn High School graduate, attended Butler University where he played
football. Prior to his time at WCHS, Jensen coached for Churubusco High School from 1992-
1995.

In 1996, Jensen joined the WCHS coaching team as head football coach where he
remained until 2003. Five years later in 2008, Jensen returned to the coaching world at WCHS, where he has acted as head football coach ever since.

During his coaching career, Jensen accumulated a career record of 133-97 and record of 104-85 at Warsaw. Jensen will retire as Warsaw’s all-time leader in football coaching wins
surpassing George Fisher with a 26-16 win over Chesterton in the sectional. The Tigers finished the 2017 campaign with a 6-5 record, losing to eventual state-runner up Penn in the sectional final. Among his accomplishments includes a 10-1 season in 2001 and a 27-5 stretch from 1999 to 2001.

“Tiger Athletics has been very fortunate to have a leader like Coach Jensen guiding our football program for these many years. His passion for kids is sincere, and he has been instrumental in many positive initiatives and programs,” stated WCHS Athletic Director Dave Anson.

“Coach Jensen has embodied our football program’s Son, Student, Athlete mantra fully and served as a positive model for many. We respect the difficulty of his decision to step down from this leadership role and head coaching position, and we wish coach Jensen nothing but the best.”

Warsaw Community Schools would like to extend a warm thank you to Jensen for the many
years spent enriching the lives of students, staff and the community through his time coaching the WCHS tiger football team.
