No charges to be filed in November shooting in South Bend

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit says a security guard at a South Bend club will not be charged after killing a man and injuring another.

Two men were shot at  the Enigma Ballroom and Club on W. Indiana Ave. near State Road 23 during the early morning hours on Nov. 25.

An investigation has determined that an argument started between the wife of 35-year-old Tolies Word Jr. and the girlfriend of 32-year-old Brandon McKinney. At some point, the two men and security guards got involved and shots were fired. Word was shot and killed at the scene while McKinney was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say the security guard that shot Word was justified in shooting him. This after interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and reviewing video shot by a bystander.
