The National Weather in Northern Indiana has issued a Winter Storm Warning for St. Joseph, LaPorte, Marshall and Starke Counties in Indiana and Berrien County in Michigan beginning at 1 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 and lasting until midnight.
A Winter Storm Advisory is in effect for Elkhart, Fulton and Kosciusko Counties in Indiana and Cass County in Michigan on Saturday.
Heavy snowfall and blowing snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are possible. Localized heavier amounts of around 9 inches are also possible under the most intense lake effect snow bands. Travelers could be affected by wind gusts topping 30 miles per hour, resulting in blowing and drifting snow.

Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are expected this afternoon. Interstates 94, 80 and 90 will be impacted with near zero visibilities at times. These conditions will increase the risk for chain reaction accidents. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning for heavy lake effect snow means significant amounts of lake effect snow are forecast that will make travel very hazardous or impossible.
