Airplane skids off runway in Michigan City

(95.3 MNC)

Scary moments for a pilot and co-pilot in Michigan City Wednesday morning.

Police say a twin-engine jet skidded off the runway at the Michigan City Municipal Airport at around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The jet reportedly overshot the runway, went through a fence, skidded across the highway, and then took out a guardrail before ending up 300 feet into a field near U.S. 20 and State Road 212.

According to Michigan City Police, the only people in the plane were the pilot and co-pilot. Despite their plane being heavily damaged, police say they were treated at the scene by first responders for minor injuries.

The pilot told police that he tried to land when his aircraft hit a fence on the way down before skidding on the runway.
