Police in Elkhart say shots were fired at them during a police pursuit.

Shortly after midnight Monday morning, officers went to Howards Auto Sales in Elkhart, which was reportedly burglarized after suspicious suspects broke in.

When officers caught up to them, they took off, ending up in Cass County, Michigan.

During the pursuit, officers says the passenger fired shots at them from a high-powered rifle in multiple occasions, damaging a police vehicle. The vehicle crashed in the area of North Shore Drive and Turpin Road northeast of Edwardsburg.

The suspects took off on foot. A photo provided by Elkhart Police shows at least one of the suspects being taken into custody. Police say they found stolen property and methamphetamine in the vehicle.
