Elkhart man drives car in front of train in Goshen…and lives to tell the tale

An Elkhart man is lucky to be alive after after he drove his car into the path of a train in Goshen early Tuesday morning.

It happened shortly before 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Ferndale railroad crossing. Despite the arms being down and the lights flashing, Goshen Police say 32-year-old Thammavaly Luangasa tried to cross the tracks.

His BMW was hit, but when police arrived, he was nowhere to be found besides some of his blood in the car.

Officers tracked him down to a nearby gas station, where he called for help. He went to Goshen Hospital with a concussion and lower back pain.

He was also ticketed for disobeying a signal.
