Elkhart’s Salvation Army in desperate need of volunteers for breakfast program

Elkhart’s Salvation Army command is looking for a few good volunteers to help with its breakfast feeding program.

The group has served the homeless and others in need of a hot breakfast every weekday for more than a decade, according to ABC 57, and serve about 80 people per day.

At least three volunteers are needed to serve the public every day, and a pool of 15 to rotate would be ideal. Right now, according to Lt. Shawn DeBaar, the Salvation Army in Elkhart has a total of four. A week ago they were down to one.

Volunteers are asked to give a minimum of an hour and a half of their time at least one day a week during the 8 a.m. hour, when breakfast is served.

Interested volunteers can call the Elkhart Salvation Army office at 574-970-0088, or apply online at SAElkhart.org.
