Former USA Gymnastics presidents say ND’s Swarbrick advised them on sexual abuse policy

Two former USA Gymnastics presidents are pointing their fingers at Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick in the wake of the Dr. Larry Nassar saga.

The Indy Star published a report Monday that former presidents Mike Jacki and Steve Penny credit Swarbrick for providing a key role in advising USA Gymnastics on its sexual abuse policy.

Jacki, who was president from 1983 to 1994, claims Swarbrick “discouraged the organization” from giving out child abuse booklets to its members.

Perry, who served from 2005 to 2017, claimed in a 2015 deposition that Swarbrick handled the organization’s legal counsel on sexual abuse issues.

Swarbrick reportedly did respond to written questions from the Indy Star, saying it was his former firm, Baker and Daniels, that represented USA Gymnastics and that he was “in and out” of working with the organization from 1984 to 2008.

Nassar was sentenced Monday in Michigan to an additional 40-125 years in prison for sex abuse. He’s accused of molesting over 265 girls and women over the course of two decades under the guise of medical treatment.

Coupled with his 40-175 year term in Ingham county and 60 years in federal prison, Nassar will almost certainly die in prison.
