Committee meets for first time to discuss new Elkhart High School mascot name

(Sam Householder/Elkhart Truth)

What’s in a name? A 30-person committee met for the first time on Thursday to hear from the public and try and answer that question for the future Elkhart High School.

The decision was made last year to combine Elkhart Central and Elkhart Memorial into one school by 2021, after more than four decades of being separate.

Suggestions are being taken for the name, mascot, colors and more for the school. Suggestions for the unified school’s personality will be gathered through March 16, with some candidates hopefully settled on by April.

The public will have a chance to participate at two more meetings this month, on the 20th at Trinity United Methodist Church and the 26th at North Side Middle School.

Electronic submissions are also accepted at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ecsmascot. You can also pick up forms at all ECS schools.
