A man is going to prison for causing a drunk driving crash in Osceola that killed his girlfriend.

38-year-old Christopher King was given a 10 year sentence Friday. That includes seven years in prison and three on probation. It happened near the intersection of Riverview Blvd. and Cedar Rd, according to the St. Joseph County Police Department.

The crash happened around 2:20 a.m. Monday, and it appears the driver was driving too fast on Cedar when the vehicle approached the curve. The SUV went airborne and spun into some trees, landing on its side in the historic Byrkit Cemetery.

39-year-old Heather Zurbuch of Mishawaka was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 39-year-old man, had to be extricated from the vehicle. He’s in the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol is also believed to be a factor, according to the St. Joseph County FACT team.
