Update: The SBCSC board has approved the improvements, saying they’ll come from a combination of bond improvement money, sponsorships, naming rights, and community grants.

The South Bend School Board is expected to discuss improvements for School Field soon.

The Board is poised to discuss a one-point-two million dollar improvement plan that includes adding field turf and new lighting.

The South Bend Tribune reports it’s unclear how the improvements would be paid for, though school officials in January said a public fundraising drive was possible. but once the details are hashed out the board is expected to take a vote.

If passed, the changes to School Field would be ready in time for the new school year this fall.

All South Bend Community Schools would be able to declare School Field as their home field. Adams and Washington currently do while Clay plays at Clay Intermediate Center and Riley plays at Jackson Intermediate Center.
