Peace and Maltese have added a fifth peregrine falcon to their nest atop the South Bend County-City buildling.
Volunteers added a female orphaned falcon from East Chicago to the nest over the weekend, meaning Peace and Maltese have three boys and two girls to teach how to fly and fend for themselves in the coming months.
The the new chick is about the same age as the other four, who were tagged last week so they can be tracked in the wild. She was found on the ground, having fallen out of her nest along with a sibling, who died from a similar fall.
A volunteer tells the South Bend Tribune that both the parents and her new siblings have accepted her into the family.
