Bill Redman/Tim Corbett gap now just 12 votes in sheriff race recount

The count for one of the closest elections ever held in St. Joseph County has become wafer-thin.

Bill Redman now leads Tim Corbett for the Democratic nomination in the Sheriff’s race by a total of 12 votes.

The South Bend Tribune reports that this came after a heated meeting where 59 absentee votes that had been previously rejected were counted. Those votes were initially disregarded for reasons such as improperly sealed envelopes or ballots that weren’t properly signed.

Thursday’s meeting focused exclusively on the rejected ballots, and there are thousands of others to be recounted if Corbett’s team chooses to continue seeking the recount, which would have to be completed by June 29th.
