Tim Corbett has given up the recount in the St. Joseph County Sheriff Democratic primary.

After losing in the May primary to Tim Redman by 18 votes, Corbett demanded a recount. Absentee ballots lowered the margin to 14 votes and Corbett decided to continue with the recount of all votes.

The count continued Monday with 38 randomly selected precincts and the difference at the end of Monday was 16 votes.

Tuesday morning, Corbett decided to pull the plug on the recount, with his attorney saying a statement that they didn’t feel the race would change after Monday’s count.

This gives the race to Redman, who will face Republican Paul Jonas and maybe independent Chuck Hurley.
