A crash on the U.S. 20 bypass snarled traffic during the middle of the day Friday.

Indiana State Police responded at around 11:30 a.m. Friday to reports of a rollover crash on the westbound bypass near the St. Joseph and Elkhart County line.

Officers discovered a white pickup truck towing a red SUV had lost control and ended up in the north-side ditch. The driver says he lost control after his rear driver’s side tire blew out.

The 48-year-old driver from Mishawaka was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with injuries. One of his passengers, a 59-year-old Mishawaka man, was also taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Two others in the truck weren’t hurt.

Indiana State Police say alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Traffic was re-opened about two hours after it happened.
