Suspicious package removed from railroad tracks near Lydick

(Abby Lutz/ABC 57)

A suspicious package caused a small scare near Lydick Friday.

The package was discovered on the rails at the South Shore Line crossing at Country Club Road near Edison Road east of Lydick. The package was discovered at about 12:30 p.m. Friday and police were called.

Country Club Road was closed while officers investigated. ABC 57’s Abby Lutz reports that an Indiana State Police bomb dog checked out the package and didn’t indicate that there were explosives inside.

The Elkhart Police Department’s bomb squad also responded and provided a robot to remove the package from the track and place it into a container. The container was then taken to bomb squad officers, who said the package would be tested off-site.

Country Club Road and the railroad tracks were re-opened at about 3:30 p.m.
