49-year-old woman struck and killed by driver on South Eddy St. in South Bend

A 49-year-old woman was killed when she was hit by a car in front of Jefferson Intermediate Center in South Bend.

It happened around 7 a.m. on Monday, Sep. 17 on Eddy Street while the woman, Marilyn Butler, of South Bend, was walking on the right side of the road. It’s not known whether she was facing traffic.

Butler was transported to Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.

Eddy Street was shut down for about two hours while the scene was cleared after 9 a.m.

The FACT Team says the 50-year-old woman who was driving the car was taken to the hospital as well and was cooperating with authorities in the investigation.

No wrongdoing is suspected.
