The South Bend Police officer who was treated for a gunshot wound to the leg accidentally discharged his own weapon, according to St. Joseph County Metro Homicide investigators.
It happened on Wednesday afternoon, Sep. 19, in the area of Main and Sample Streets in South Bend.
Officer Joshua Morgan was attempting to arrest a robbery suspect when the gun discharged and the bullet hit his right leg.
Morgan was treated for what investigators described as a graze wound. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday night.
The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation.
