Several families displaced after apartment fires in Elkhart

As many as six families in Elkhart are looking for new places to live after two separate apartment fires.

One of the fires happened on Tuesday morning, Oct. 30, at a complex in the 2100 block of Toledo Road.

A neighbor who called 911 after hearing a smoke alarm go off.

Investigators believe the blaze started in a furnace area.

One person was taken to the hospital with breathing problems.

The other fire broke out, Tuesday night, at a complex in the 2300 block of West Lexington.

The blaze began in a bathroom.

By the time firefighter doused the flames, several other apartments had received smoke and water damage.
