GREENBUSH TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Republican John James is attacking Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow in a new TV ad with allegations that she turned her back on military, while Stabenow says she’s staying positive in the closing stretch of her re-election campaign.
James’ campaign said Wednesday he upped his ad spending by $440,000, keeping pace with Stabenow over the race’s final days. The ad is the first in which he goes negative against Stabenow, who has led in polls.
It criticizes her for voting against a military pay raise and emergency funding for troops in Iraq. Stabenow’s spokeswoman has said she consistently voted to fund the military and supported raises.
Speaking at a cider mill Wednesday, Stabenow says she’s staying positive and showing “what Michigan’s about” with a tour of businesses and other places.
