Local pastor resigns amid investigation into “financial irregularities”

A priest in southwest Michigan is giving up his pastor position at area churches, while a financial investigation into bad accounting practices continues.

Father Richard Altine was a pastor at all five of the churches in question, and each is under investigation by the Catholic Diocese of Kalamazoo for “financial irregularities.”

Altine served locally at Holy Maternity of Mary parish in Dowagiac; Holy Family parish in Decatur; St. Gabriel parish in Berrien Springs; and the St. Anthony parish, in Buchanan.

Altine announced his resignation on Facebook, saying it was due to “medical and mental issues.”
