The crash on US 31 that killed a teenage student on an Eastern Pulaski School bus, happened when the driver of a truck was trying to change his clothes while behind the wheel.

The crash happened last month on U.S. 31 near the railroad crossing in Marshall County.

The driver of a rental truck and flatbed trailer, Tylor Perry, was traveling northbound behind a school bus when he began taking off his sweatshirt and fleece jacket, according to an Indiana State Police report, as reported by 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

After he got the shirt off, Perry looked up and realized the bus was stopped at the railroad tracks. He slammed on his brakes and attempted to swerve to the left to avoid the bus, according to the police report.

Owen Abbott, 13, was killed in the crash. More than two dozen other students were injured.

The Indiana State Police report will be being given to the Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
