The School City of Mishawaka has selected their new superintendent.

In a unanimous vote this week, the school board approved the hiring of Wayne Barker to run the schools.

Barker has been the superintendent of the Bluffton-Barrison Schools near Fort Wayne for 10 years, and was with the schools for 14 years before that as an assistant principal.

The hiring comes at the end of a six-month process. Barker’s accomplishments include a 20 percent enrollment increase, and a graduation rate of 98 percent.

His three-year contract begins July 1, one day after Dean Speicher’s contract ends.
