Integra Certified Document Destruction is partnering with Michiana Crime Stoppers to help people avoid becoming victims of fraud or identity theft with another shred event.
On Saturday, April 27, from 8:00 a.m. until 12 p.m., people can bring their unwanted
personal and business records to Martin’s Super Market parking lot at Erskine Plaza, South Bend.
In exchange for a $10 minimum donation to Michiana Crime Stoppers, Integra will destroy the documents on site. They can even destroy computer CDs.
There is no need to remove staples or rubber bands.
While Crime Stoppers is asking for a $10 minimum donation, for those bringing a large volume of documents to be destroyed a more generous donation would be appreciated.
Cash and checks made out to Crime Stoppers will be accepted. Now we are able to take credit cards, too. Or, a donor may go online to MichianaCrimeStoppers.com and submit their donation using PayPal, then bring the printed receipt with them.
Donations and funds raised through our events go directly toward paying rewards for information leading to the arrest of felony offenders in the Michiana community.
A study released by the Bureau of Justice finds that identity theft cost Americans $24.7 billion in 2012, $10 billion more than all other property crimes measured by the National Crime Victimization Survey. This figure includes not only direct losses, money thieves got by using a victim’s personal account information, but the cost of repairing the effects of identity theft, including legal fees and bounced check fees.
