New fishing rules are in place this year in Michigan

The rules have changed for people looking to fish in the state of Michigan this summer.

The rule changes include how many fish you can keep, and how you handle unused live bait.

Among the changes are a new limit statewide on yellow perch of 25, a limit of two lake trout instead of three, and a requirement that unused bait should be thrown in the trash rather than in the water to help fight new diseases and the spread of invasive species.

Anyone over the age of 17 is required to have a license to fish in Michigan. You can find the full 2019 Michigan Fishing Guide by clicking here.
