Hundreds of students in the South Bend School system are in class despite not being up to date on their immunizations

Students without in sixth to 12th grade is around 28%, which total comes too more than a thousand students. This is all detailed in a report by the South Bend Tribune.

Concern was brought to light after a question to the district board from the St. Joseph County Health Department. This is not to say that there aren’t students that have filed religious exemptions or other necessary documents.

A district spokesperson told the Tribune that nurses do follow up on immunization cases, and there are strict timelines in place to get kids immunized or submit for exemptions. District policy makes it possible for administrators to expel students that don’t get their shots, but it’s not clear if that is happening.
