The Governor of Illinois has declared a shoreline disaster for the state’s Lake Michigan coastline.

On Thursday, Governor J.B. Pritzker made the declaration, about a week after a similar move from the Governor of Wisconsin.

The Northwest Indiana Times reports Governor Eric Holcomb has rejected requests for a similar declaration from Indiana. Local lawmakers along the shore say doing so would allow for additional state and federal funding to combat lake shore erosion in Lake, Porter and LaPorte Counties.

Holcomb says the states’s erosion issues are insufficient to qualify for a declaration.
