Schools struggle to safely get free meals to needy students

A cafeteria worker packages hot lunches at Calhoun Elementary School in Calhoun, Georgia on Thursday, March 19, 2020. The city's school district recently shuttered its doors in an effort to slow the spread of coronavirus, but the district's school bus drivers still drive their normal routes to deliver hot meals to an area where 60% of students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Schools that feed millions of children from low-income families across the U.S. promised to keep providing meals during the coronavirus pandemic.

But cities big and small quickly ran into problems when food workers, teachers and volunteers became infected or were too scared to report for duty. Some districts have been forced to suspend their programs altogether.

That’s left families who are already struggling more desperate.

After a more than weeklong shutdown in Houston, schools in the nation’s fourth-largest city made changes to reduce risks.

The district started giving out enough food to last for several days in fewer locations.

People in Texas have problems, but what about locally?? Why not provide more local news instead of wasting time reporting on a problem in Texas. That what local radio is about!!!
Also, Covid 19 data…. What does it really mean? Numbers are being thrown at us with no explanation of their meaning. The number of infected (county, state and national) is that a rolling number, (meaning, is that number shrinking when someone recovers or dies ) or is it a cumulative number. No one explains, the leadership just throws out this number everyday and never explains what it means, or how it is gathered.
There is no reporting on recovery, especially recovering vs. cumulative infected. How many people have died from the FLU during this same time period as Covad 19 has run. What about the hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin combo, are there any numbers about this treating the virus… this is what needs to be reported. Dr Fauci wants to keep us locked up, but he is a number cruncher with a bad computer algorithm, clueless when he gets out outdoors. So get out and do some real reporting locally, quit regurgitating AP stories that dont apply locally!

Lawrence:
We have reported time and again about the local struggle w/food. In fact, here are two very recent articles regarding local food drives that have taken place or are about to take place. Feel free to read them.

In regard to recovery, both Michigan and Indiana state health leaders have stated publicly that they have not been given full statistics from hospitals in regard to recovery numbers. It is something they are working on. We have reported that fact, as well.
Hope this helps with your frustration. I might suggest listening longer or reading more articles from our website. Or listening/watching more news in general. Everything you’re frustrated with has been reported, or explained as to why it isn’t being reported.
