Three arrests were made after several homeless people refused to leave a tent city encampment in downtown South Bend, on Tuesday, May 26, after being given several days notice to evacuate.
The stand off with police happened at the encampment at South Michigan and Monroe Streets as South Bend Police and code enforcement took charge.
Police Chief Scott Ruszkowski said there are several local agencies who can provide help for the people in the encampment, but they can’t force them to take it.
The situation ended peacefully with most of those involved receiving help from a nearby church.
The three people arrested face trespass and resisting charges.

Never fear South Bend residents! I’m sure all the charges against your pet homeless will be dropped.
Got any room in your backyards for a tent? Step up!
