Athletes in Michigan, on the field and off, can get back to what they do best according to Governor Whitmer.
Thursday, Whitmer announced that gyms can reopen after 5 1/2 months of closure, and organized sports can resume. This lifts some coronavirus restrictions that have remained in effect in The Great Lakes State longer than in several other states.
The order, which will be effective on Wednesday, states that fitness centers and indoor pools in Michigan can reopen in the remaining regions that are home to 93% of the states population, but masks will be required inside gyms.
She also allowed athletic competitions to resume but recommended against high contact sports, though she did not prohibit them.
She did not reopen theaters, defying expectations that she might.
High School football games will begin on September 17th in Michigan.
