Vehicle struck by train in Berrien County

There were no injuries after a vehicle was struck by a train in Berrien County.

The collision happened around 9:30 p.m. on Friday, Sep. 18, at the railroad crossing in the 3400 block of Pier Road near Lynch Road, in Hager Township.

The driver of a Cadillac had driven off of the road and crossing and became stuck on the tracks, according to the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department.

The driver left the vehicle, prior to it being struck by an Amtrak train. Witnesses then saw the driver take off from the area after the vehicle was struck.

There was considerable damage to the vehicle as well as damage to the train.

The railroad crossing lights were flashing, the crossing arms were down and the train was blowing its horn before the vehicle was struck.

The investigation into the collision is still underway.
