Niles man sentenced for weapons-related charges

A Niles man was sentenced to just over five years in prison after pleading guilty to transporting a firearm in interstate commerce knowing that a felony would be committed with it.

Clarence Bonds, 36, was sentenced to 71 months in prison and 2 years of supervised release.

Bonds was on federal supervised release for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute crack cocaine when he bought a .45 caliber handgun in Nile and was caught with it while riding in a car.

Bonds has multiple prior convictions, including several for weapons-related offenses.
