It turns out that 5% of Michiganders are not going back for their second vaccine dose.

The state’s “Vacc To Normal Plan” applies the number of people who have received their first shot to the potential for state reopening. However a number of Michigan health leaders are concerned about people who are only getting one shot. That could have a negative impact on not just the potential protection of the patient, but also on the state’s herd immunity.

Nationally the CDC says 8% of first vaccine recipients, or nearly 5 million Americans, have skipped their second dose. West Michigan health leaders tell WSBT both doses of Pfizer or Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine are necessary for full protection against the virus.
