The CDC has just released its latest Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance Report, and the numbers are on the increase.
For the 6th consecutive year, the STD rate in the United States hit a record high and South Bend ranks in the Top 100 with more than 1,100 cases per 100,000 people.
Chlamydia cases top the list with 1,700 reported cases. For the nation, as a whole, STD’s are 5-to-8 times higher for African-Americans, and 1-to-2 times higher for Hispanic or Latino people compared to Caucasian.
The South continues to be disproportionately represented among the hardest-hit cities. Jackson Mississippi ranked first in the nation with the most.
