You may have heard about the supply chain being interrupted because of COVID, or perhaps went to buy something and couldn’t get it. That’s because some essential parts, especially for products that require electronics, are not able to be manufactured quickly, and it’s affecting Indiana.

Gerry Dick, with Inside Indiana Business, explained that the automotive industry has been slow in getting new cars out.

“A big part of that is this shortage of micro chips that make cars and trucks work these days,” said Dick on Tony Katz and the Morning News on WIBC Radio. “The truck plant in Ft. Wayne is essentially parking, and has hundreds of trucks just sitting on a lot there. They don’t have the parts to make them go, essentially.”

Dick said the situation is getting better, but it will be a while before things are back to normal, since an essential part called the semi conductor has been in short supply.

He said some of the shortages have not only slowed manufacturing, but those slow downs have some people wondering if jobs could be a stake.

“When you look at Indiana ass the most manufacturing intensive state in the country, per capita, there are concerns as to how long this might go.”
