A big hurdle has been cleared by a bill that Indiana Sen. Todd Young has been working on for the better part of the last year.

The Endless Frontier Act was advanced on a procedural vote to end debate early Friday morning by a vote of 68-30. The bill needed to pass the Senate filibuster threshold of 60 votes in order to advance.

Before the vote, Young made one last speech before senators in the chamber to convince them to push the bill ahead.

“Just days ago, Communist China orbited, landed, and deployed a rover on the surface of Mars. No other nation has done this (except the United States),” Young said. “This momentous event happens at a time when so many of our citizens feel overlooked and when our allegiance seems increasingly to our political tribes and not to one and other as citizens for the common good.”

Young’s bill would steer $100 billion over the next five years towards bolstering partnerships between businesses and schools to help develop and innovate new technology. It would also help train future generations on this new tech.

Though Young has said in the past that the bill will help the United States “out-innovate China” he said early Friday morning that the bill’s sole purpose is not to beat China.

“The Endless Frontier act is about using (China’s) challenge to become a better version of ourselves,” Young said. “It’s about supercharging our economy as we emerge from this global pandemic, which upon us from Communist China.”

The bill needs one more vote in order to pass the Senate and be sent to the House. The bill has bipartisan support as demonstrated by the bill’s approval through the Senate filibuster. President Biden has also said he supports the bill.

Government does not innovate or supercharge economies, private citizens do. Government needs to get out of the way and stop spending our money. What he is proposing is not going to amount to a hill or even handful of beans.

The money would be better of sent to NASA…so long as it’s mission is space exploration and not Muslim outreach. Otherwise it’s better left in our pockets, not trying to pay businesses to play career day at a local school.

Correct! This is a giant money waster to subsidize what schools and businesses are doing anyway.

The government does not have an economic gas pedal, the best they can do is get their foot off the brakes!
