Two people from Warsaw face animal cruelty charges after police found a dead monkey inside a car at Soaky Mountain Waterpark in Tennessee.
On Wednesday, Sevierville police got a call about two animals, stuck inside a car at the parking lot.
When police got to the waterpark at around 4:30 p.m., they found two marmoset monkeys — a dead 9-week-old and a distressed 5-week-old — inside the car.
The 5-week-old monkey was taken to an animal hospital to recover.
The interior heat of the car is believed to be what killed the 9-week-old monkey. The outside air temperature was 87 degrees at the time.
The owners of the monkey have been charged: Nova Brettel, 54, of Warsaw, has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty. David Paul Brettell, 54, has been charged with animal cruelty.
