Elkhart officer is suspended after alleged misconduct

A police officer has been suspended for 60 days and put on probation, despite Chief Kris Seymore’s request to fire her.

Seymore wanted to fire Taryn Lanzen and her husband, Sgt. Nathan Lanzen, as a result of them allegedly gaining “complete financial control” of an Elkhart resident’s assets, including his home.

The relationship began while on official police duty.

The Elkhart Truth reports that the couple met with the man  last year when he mentioned needing yard work and home repairs.

Then, shortly after their friendship began, Lanzen became the man’s power of attorney, and health care representative.

Allegedly she re-wrote his will, making her a beneficiary and the sole executor of his estate.

The Police Merit Commission said despite Lanzen violating policies, the Chief’s request to terminate was too harsh.
