A man from northwest Indiana narrowly avoided being hit by an Amtrak train on Sunday.

A Porter police officer was responding Sunday morning to a call about a drunk man walking along some railroad tracks when he saw 25-year-old Brandon Seay, of Porter, lying on his back on a set of tracks in front of an approaching Amtrak train.

The officer yelled at Seay to get off the tracks while waving his arms to signal at the train’s conductor.

Seay jumped off the tracks at the last moment, clutching a six-pack of wine coolers with only one container remaining.

He told the officer he had been drinking for more than two days, reports The Times of Northwest Indiana.

Seay was arrested for public intoxication, unlawful use of a railroad right of way, and other charges, according to police.

An initial hearing for Seay is set for Sept. 8.
