Housing development could be planned for former C.G. Conn Factory

A housing development may be the most likely option as Elkhart plans the future of the former C.G. Conn factory site.

The instrument maker operated out of the industrial complex on Beardsley Avenue from 1920’s to the 1980’s.

It’s now owned by the Elkhart Redevelopment Commission and the city has been asking for feedback for putting the vacant site to new use.

The Michiana Area Council of Governments led two public input sessions last month.

Suggestions, so far, range from a park or a petting zoo to a library or office space.

The Elkhart Truth reports the Redevelopment Commission offered the site up for private development and has received two letters of intent, for housing projects.

If you have any ideas, you can take part in an online survey through the month of September.

The link to the survey can be found here.
