Mayor Rod Roberson has proposed a $92.6 million budget for 2022 for the City of Elkhart.

The budget funds creation for 17 new full-time positions spread across 10 city departments, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

A large raise would be give to the H.R. Director. Pay hikes of 4 percent would be given to a large group of city workers.

Other plans include A $150,000 increase for the city’s lobbying budget, which the mayor says would pay off by bringing more federal and state funds to the city.

It also calls for more than $180,000 to repair the police departments roof, HVAC system and flooring.

The council is expected to vote on the spending plan during their October 18th meeting.

“Other plans include A $150,000 increase for the city’s lobbying budget, which the mayor says would pay off by bringing more federal and state funds to the city.”

Another resounding indictment of our Federal grant system! Money is confiscated from local citizens in the form of income taxes, and then we have to spend additional money to hire lobbyists to try and get that money back with strings attached.

The proper fix is to abolish Federal grants, lower Federal taxes so the money stays local, and then raise local taxes if needed. This will never happen because Federal politicians will not give up that control, and local politicians don’t want to justify their spending. The entire scheme is built for fiscal irresponsibility.
