More information has been released about a standoff that resulted in the arrest of an Elkhart man.
Officers were called to the 800 block of Liberty Street on Sunday, Oct. 31, for reports of a man with a knife.
According to officials the man allegedly charged at the woman who lives in a home where she invited him to stay for a couple of nights.
The woman told officers she had asked the man, 49-year-old Shannon Casey Luefling, to leave. When she came down stairs, she found the stove pulled away from the wall and Luefling armed with a knife.
She was able to get away.
When officers arrived, they smelled gas and told the neighbors to leave for their safety.
Police ordered the man out of the home, resorting to deploying pepper-balls. The man still did not come out.
After 90 minutes, SWAT arrived on scene and went inside.
Luefling was arrested for intimidation with a deadly weapon and an outstanding warrant.
