A South Bend woman was killed in a crash on State Road 23 near Walkerton.

The collision happened around 5:10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 1, near Walnut Road when the driver of a Ford Crown Victoria, identified as Misty S. Chaney-Courtney, 33, was traveling northbound on S.R. 23.

An 18-year-old man from Knox who was traveling southbound collided with the Ford.

Chaney-Courtney was airlifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she later died. The woman’s husband and daughter, who were riding in the car, were not injured.

The Knox man was taken to Memorial Hospital via ambulance with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team (FACT) was activated, per protocol, and is handling the ongoing investigation.
