Indiana Democrats not happy with bill doing away with handgun permits

gun

The Indiana House is moving on to other business this week after passing a bill that would do away with requirements for Hoosiers to purchase a permit in order to carry a handgun in Indiana.

Still, Democratic lawmakers are getting their last licks in before it’s considered by the State Senate.

Indianapolis Democrat Mitch Gore, who is also a Marion County sheriff’s deputy, says the bill will make it more difficult for police officers to do their jobs when it comes to finding people who aren’t legally allowed to have a gun.

A similar bill died in the State Senate last session.

I wonder if the good sheriff might enlighten us on how this makes his job more difficult. The mere presence of a gun is not probable cause to ask to see a handgun license (yes, it is a license. Indiana doesn’t issue “permits”, and the media is too lazy to get the correct term) or to detain anyone. This law does not change that. The “harder to do my job” excuse is a red herring.

You are right.
Does a bad evil guy go “dog gone I can’t use this gun to commit a crime. I don’t have a Concealed Carry permit.

Ahhh democrats… they haven’t changed much in my lifetime. Still the same dishonest arguments designed to incite an emotional response instead of reasoned, logical points.

Screw paying for a right like it’s a privilege. Get this passed and done with!

A prohibited person is prohibited from possessing a firearm whether other citizens are required to have a license to carry or not. An officer still must check the status of any individual to know if the person is in violation. A license could have been revoked, but still in the possession of the individual.
Requiring a license to exercise a constitutional right is not reasonable.
All “gun control” should be focused specifically and directly on prohibited persons.

Democrats hate freedom. Democrats also LOVE selling you licenses to exercise the freedoms they take away.

Replying to Stocks & Farleys remarks. Due you not have a licence to drive?
If you have a Accident that officer should be able to check and know that you were driving legally.
If you Conceal carry that officer should know your doing it legally.
I’ve had a licence to carry concealed for 40 years. The only reason that I see that You object is that you can’t get one.

Bob,
Due [sic] you think you will have to prove you are legally carrying if you use your handgun? Of course you would, just like for a traffic infraction. By your logic, cops would be able to pull you over to see if you have a driver license just because.

I object because a constitutional right can’t be tied to government permission with a fee. You assume I can’t get one? Good snark, Bob. I hope it makes you feel superior even though your logic is false.

By the way, your license doesn’t say concealed on it anywhere. Indiana issues a license to carry, period. Open carry, concealed carry, duct taped to your forehead. If you’ve had a license for forty years, one would think you would know that. You don’t really have your little pink piece of 2A permission do you, bob?

Nice try, Bob. Thanks for participating.

You seem to be confused the difference between rights and privileges. Please show me your free speech permit so that I can easily verify that you are allowed to make your erroneous statement.

Don’t try to plead the 5th either, unless you have already purchased your license for that.

The only problem I have with this bill is that it reduces the penalty for a convicted violent felon illegally carrying a gun to a misdemeanor. this reduces any deterrent for convicted felons to carry a firearm illegally. To them, a misdemeanor doesn’t even count.

No laws count to criminals. More armed people opposing them is better.

Driving is a privilege not a RIGHT. Plenty of people drive around on suspended drivers licenses and no insurance. Most are never caught. BOTH are required to exercise the privilege to drive on public roads. By the way more die in traffic accidents than by criminal use of firearms every year. Millions of law-abiding citizens use their legally owned and carried firearms each year to protect themselves and others from criminals. No where in the Indiana or US Constitution is there any verbiage about a right to drive. There is however a right to keep and bear arms. Criminals carry guns illegally now. None of them bother to get a license. Even if they did have a carry license and murdered someone would they be less guilty of murder? Constitutional carry will not make murder and other crimes using a firearm legal in any way. The gun laws and driving laws only have effect on the LAW-ABIDING. The Sheriff, who should be voted OUT because he is not following his oath of office, will have no more difficulty enforcing laws with or without a concealed carry license. Every time there is a traffic stop the officer checks the car tag on his in car computer. Every officer approaches a stopped motorist with his hand on his pistol and sometimes with his partner at the passenger side window with his or her hand on their pistol too. He then takes the driving license back to his car and checks on the driver. I’m willing to bet a big lunch that the criminal record, outstanding warrants, and a firearms license are some of the things the officer can see on his computer screen. Law-abiding gun owners and concealed carriers need not pay over and above board what every one else pays to live in a free society. Some years ago there was a published story about a Florida resident traveling in New Jersey, the Armpit of the Country, to see family. He was stopped and his entire car’s contents were removed. His possessions were rummaged through right there on a busy interstate highway. He and his family was separated and questioned about the .380 pistol the police officer’s computer said he owned. He left it home in compliance with the laws of the Armpit State he was traveling in. It took over two hours for the cops to not find his gun that he told them he did not have in his possession that day. Or perhaps he was black, I don’t remember if that was mentioned in the story or not. Is that how we want to live our daily lives???? Then we have Covid passports to deal with………….What a country. What ignorant commentators we have on this subject. God Given and Constitutionally Guaranteed RIGHTS are a lot different from privileges.

Guns don’t kill people people kill people with guns and I’m not talking about those who are law-abiding we as a people here in the US have a right to bear arms we have a right to protect ourselves and our family from bad law-breaking people who are out their to steal kill and destroy
But those of us who do carry are honest hard-working people in the US whether you are a God-fearing or not we must all unite and stay strong and the rights that we have and United States of America

“The only problem I have with this bill is that it reduces the penalty for a convicted violent felon illegally carrying a gun to a misdemeanor.”
Its always been a misdemeanor. In fact only “serious violent” felons are prohibited based on Indiana law. Indiana law doesn’t even preclude ALL felons. Federal law does however.
