Man’s remains found inside mobile home that caught fire in Berrien County

An elderly man was found dead inside a mobile home that caught fire.

Crews from the Pipestone-Berrien-Eau Claire and Berrien Springs-Oronoko Township Fire Departments were called just after 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, put out the blaze at the River Springs Estates on Old U.S. 31.

Police arrived but were not able to enter the mobile home due to the intensity of the flames and thick smoke.

The occupant’s remains were found inside the mobile home after the blaze was out.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Division is working to determine the cause of the fire.

The Western Michigan Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine a cause of death.
