A plan to cut the state’s gas tax in order to ease the pain at the pump in Michigan is expected to be taken up in the Senate this week. It passed through the State House on Friday.
WSJM reports that some members of Road Commissions in the state are actively opposing the Republican-backed plan, saying it wouldn’t accomplish much. Supporters say revenue losses from suspending the 27 cent-per-gallon tax could be “backfilled” with money from federal dollars and the state’s Rainy Day Fund.
